THE PURPOSE OF MINISTRY

Ministries exist to build up the body of Christ spiritually. Those who are involved in the ministry as well as those who are being served by that ministry should be encouraged and edified in Christ.

What makes ministry within the church different from any social, civic, political or community organization is that the service in the local church does not happen on an ordinary level like these organizations but on a supernatural level. The Bible says that we as a church are collectively the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 3:16). 1 Peter 2:5 says that we are living stones being built up as a spiritual house “for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ”. Therefore, God the Holy Spirit is in the very midst of our service for the purpose of empowering our ministry so that worship be offer up to God through Jesus Christ.

The Stamp of Approval of what makes ministry legitimate is when its aim is to manifestly exalt Christ in biblical service and communication. What makes ministry legitimate is that it directs people not to talk about how great your ministry is, but it directs people to talk about how great our God is through Jesus Christ. It’s not showcasing ourselves or promoting ourselves but promoting Christ. And there is no such thing as exalting Christ subliminally!!! We strive to intentionally seek to proclaim the gospel so the person being served will understand he or she is being served by a church? Every opportunity we have to serve those in our community is a God given opportunity to proclaim the gospel. Or else Christ is not being magnified. Ministry is supernatural by virtue of the energizing work of the Spirit and the fact that the rewards for the work are eternal (Matt. 25:34-40).
